Lately

The last few weeks have been made up of getting back into the school routine. A lot of reading, writing, and time spent in the darkroom.

I've also been going to the Artist Portraits at the Belcourt. So far, I've gotten to see: Vic Muniz - Wasteland, Burroughs - A Man Within, and (last night) Strange Powers - The Magnetic Fields.

Last weekend, Jessica and I visited Huntsville, Alabama for the Grand Opening of the Flying Monkey's first floor and it looks good! There are new artist spaces, Happy Tummy (inside) and a community printmaking studio! I am so happy to still feel like a part of the community there.

I went to the Frist to see the new William Eggleston exhibit today.

Huntsville, Alabama (1970)

Other favorites were: "Untitled (Door, White and Black tile, Paramount Lot)","Sign Factory, Square Hole, Pin Up, St. Petersburg, Russia" and "Newspaper on Ground, Grass, California". Oh, and he did album art for the Sliver Jews, Spoon, and Joanna Newsom! I had no idea.  If you can make it, I highly suggest going to the artist talk with Caroline Allison and seeing the work on Thursday, February 3rd at 6:30.

I also got to hear the Art Guys speak at Vanderbilt today. I think my favorite project was "Two Grown Men Can't Pull It Apart". After seeing an advertisement for fake grass that said "Two Grown Men Can't Pull It Apart!", they wondered what else two grown men can't pull apart (pictures below).  They were very entertaining, they even rented guitars.

Today was also the reception for the Arts at the Airport where I, along with some other students at Watkins, have work up (before and after) security in the A and C terminal.

This weekend I have a shoot with Fancytramp and the Pearl and a trip to Sassafras to look forward to.

"If I want to go somewhere... You know what? I go" - Aunt Starla

Jessica, Seth, and I took a five day trip to New York City.

It was our first time there, so we were really excited.

We got a great deal on a rental car.

And drove from Nashville to Philadelphia.

We took a train from Philly to NYC.

The streets were filled with things to look at.

When we felt too claustrophobic we wondered around Central Park.

We walked in the snow and kicked chunks of ice down the streets.

The subway was one of my favorite parts about the city.

The view of the Empire State Building from the tick-tock diner.

Blake and Max were both excellent guides. and Beautiful boys.

We ate brunch with the incredible Aaron Fowler  at B&H.

I bought way too many 10$ Metro Cards.

We walked a bit in time square.

On the last night, we got lost on Amsterdam Ave.

Blake and I ate amazing pizza and danced with Deanna Garcia.

And now a teaser for what's to be seen at the MOMA...

Nan Goldin

Diane Arbus

Jackson Pollock

Barbara Kruger

Picasso

Mary Frey

Mark Rothko

Fida Kahlo

Matisse

Gertrude Käsebier

On our way back to Aunt Starla's in Philadelphia.

We left Pennsylvania at 3:30 am

and drove through seven states.

It was a great trip.

Next time I go to NYC I'm bringing:

a suitcase with wheels
stilettos

Lately

My dad came up for a quick visit.
We ate at Rotiers, played greedy, and talked about cannibalism.

I have been working on Christmas presents!

We had a bonfire at the house to celebrate Jessica's 22nd Birthday.

Vincent and Jenny both got into town after being in California.

Don't forget to tune in tomorrow evening from 6 to 8 (WRVU 91.1) for Russostokes!
